Do I need a provisional driving license before having lessons?
Yes, you will need to apply for a provisional driving license from the DVLA before taking driving lessons.
 

I have booked a driving test, can I just hire the car?
Most driving instructors would like to assess your driving ability before loaning out their car. At Lucky Brake, an initial assessment lesson lasting at least 1 hour would be required before offering out vehicle use for test.

How many driving lessons do I need?
The average number of hours required is 45 hours. This could however be more or less depending on the individuals ability to learn.

 

What should I bring to my driving lesson?
You should bring your provisional driving license with you.

 

What should I wear to my driving lesson?
We all want to be comfortable while sitting in a car so wear what is comfortable to you. You should consider wearing shoes with good traction and not lose footwear.

What happens if I make a mistake on my driving lesson?
Not a problem! Mistakes are a good way to learn as you realise what went wrong and work on not doing the same thing again. 


Should I have completed my theory test before taking driving lessons?

You don't have to complete the theory test before taking driving lessons however, from an instructors point of view it is very helpful for you to have a basic understanding of road signs and markings.


What happens if I fail my test?

We look at the feedback given by the examiner and focus on those points to improve and when ready, we discuss rebooking the test.


Should I take a mock test?

Think of a mock test like the school mock exams, it helps to prepare you for the real thing while also helping you become a better driver by gaining a second opinion from another Approved Driving Instructor.

When should I book my practical test?

When the instructor feels you are safe and ready for your test, they will have a conversation with you about preparing you for the test and when to book  test. This is to give you the best chance possible at passing the test first time.
